Nameno stood in front of the crowd. There were eleven of us in all. I knew five people – Billy, Nisbub, Nameno, Jones and myself. The other six were strangers. None of them spoke as Nameno began.
“As all of you know, the next step has been taken. We’ve been left with a riddle and have a week to figure it out. Billy, as I get in to this, get everyone another Quacktail, it’ll help absorb all of this in.”
Billy got up from his seat and started pouring. Those of us who had a bit left of our previous Quacktails in our hands finished them off. Within minutes all eleven of us had a fresh round.
Nameno continued, “Let’s toast to our new beginning.” He raised his glass into the air. The remaining ten of us did the same. “We have gotten to the next step. Some of the information we will already know from the Diary of the Quacks that Jones found buried in that grave in Belize on his expedition. Much of the knowledge and the information we currently have come from the Diary. It told us how to get this deep into Humanocracy. Now we embark on new knowledge in order to gain and understand. But first we must solve a riddle. We have to find two names. I will repeat what the voice said, verbatim, in order for us to begin our conversations. After I say the riddle, I say we disband this Quack Tale until four days from now. It will allow us to meet and still have three days until we must present our answer. The three-day siesta will give us all time to think of our own, unique answer and allow us to discuss them fully. Please, after I tell you what we heard, finish your Quacktail and drive home. We will meet in four days. Does everyone agree?”
The room bellowed, “Here, here.” And Nameno told them the riddle.
“To enter this Gate the Quack must have the key.
However, this key one cannot see.
It exists in words that can be told.
But only by men who feel as bold.
There are two sides, existing in space.
There are two sides among your race.
Conflicting Existence is how it’s described.
And because of it many men have died.
The names of the two sides are what I seek.
I need these names within a week.
Look within these words I now say to you.
The answer is immersed in the clues.
Two sides compete every day.
Their names I must hear you say.
One side deals in the past and the future.
They analyze both to try to control the present.
This gives them a false reality
as they are stuck to deal in space-time limitations.
The other side deals in the present.
They sense the moment with their organ of sensation.
Their mind registers and catalogues the sensations and the experience
as they deal in the Here and Now.
The two names I need, within a week.
These two names I seek a Quack to speak.”
Everyone in the room finished their Quacktail, rose from their seat, and drove home.
